3rd Singapore International Photography Festival (Part B)

A picture speaks a thousand words. Indeed, during the 3rd Singapore International Photography Festival, I’ve seen a lot of different photos with different story behind it. Every photographer got a piece to story to share with their photographs.

I have chosen this festival as my field trip as I am interested in photography and I always love to look at how different artists trying to convey messages through their photographs. There is no definite theme this year, only to know that no matter what camera you are using, it is the passion that counts.

Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) is into its third year this year in Singapore. It started off in 2008, followed by 2010 and also, this year too. SIPF is the very first event of its kind in Southeast Asia. The festival consists of three main constituent, official exhibitions, workshops and a three day portfolio review session for selected photographers.

The whole festival is held at 6 different locations, they are ArtScience Museum, Singapore Management University Gallery, The Substation, Photographic Society of Singapore, Selegie Arts Centre, National Library, The Plaza and lastly Societe Generale Gallery, Alliance Francaise.
Out of the 6 locations, the most memorable and favourable one to visit will be at ArtScience Museum. The name of the exhibition is called Outside In: A Magnum Photos Showcase where they bring together a rare showcase of 143 works by 3 lauded photographers. They are Stuart Franklin, Mark Power and Jacob Aue Sobol.

In addition, all ticket holders are entitled to see the photos that are from SIPF in the same exhibition hall. Hence it is like viewing two showcases in one exhibition hall.
Different photographer has different themes to their artwork, from landscapes to smoke and even portrait. Those portrait photos is trying to show the emotions of the subject through the photograph and with black and white effect, more meaning and feel are added into the photographs.
Examples of photographers that are able to express out the subjects emotions will be shots done by artist named Musuk Nolte Maldonado. He did it best with the monochrome effect and also the expression of the subject.

On the other hand, showcase from other venue also left an impression on me as random snap shots during everyday life is able to tell its story of its own too.

I would definitely would love to go back again for the next event.
